What is the difference between Counselling and Psychotherapy?

The terms counselling and Psychotherapy are similar, but they have some important distinctions that are beneficial to keep in mind when you are looking for help.

Counselling is a joint process where, by talking about a specfic  problem, usually present situation without much attention to the role of past, we will work together to an understanding of find ways of cope with the situation.

Appointments

The initial appointment usually will last 90 minutes. This is to give us time to meet, for you to tell me about your needs and to gain a sense of whether you wish to continue to work with me. If the work is agreed, the following sessions will last 50 minutes and will happen in a weekly basis.

Confidenciality

I understand the importance to clients of feeling safe and reassured that the service they receive is skilled, ethical and confidential. Psychotherapy is an experience where private things will be shared, in some cases, for the first time.  Therefore, all communications with me regarding the sessions will remain confidential.
